We cleared a corner of the shop bench and opened the Woodcraft Project Kit Cutting Board Kit (Cherry, Maple, Purpleheart) with cautious optimism. Right away, the color story felt deliberate: warm cherry, clean maple, and that bold purpleheart stripe that looks like a signature when the grain catches the light. The pieces arrived neatly milled and ready to become something real, which made it easy to focus on the parts that matter—layout, glue-up rhythm, and keeping everything flat under clamps. We liked that it offers a “project with guardrails,” but still leaves room for our own choices in pattern, edge treatment, and finish.
