Woodpeckers Birch Plywood Review: Right for Our Shop?

We’ve been hunting for a reliable 1/8-inch sheet good that won’t turn our laser and CNC jobs into a warped, splintery mess, and Woodpeckers’ 3 mm Baltic birch plywood caught our eye. This box of 45 (12 x 12) B/BB grade sheets promises the clean faces we want for signage and the toughness we need for small parts-especially compared to softer basswood. In our shop, the appeal is obvious: consistent sizing for repeatable jigs, sturdy plies that feel less “spongy” under engraving pressure, and a surface that takes wood burning with a crisp edge. Still, we’ll be watching for glue lines, core voids, and any variability across the stack.

HOMSFOU Foam Board Review: Right Material for Our Shop?

In our search for a dependable foam board for small-scale scenery, the HOMSFOU Model DIY Material Craft Foam Diorama Foam Board landed on our workbench with big “maybe” energy. Right away, we noticed how approachable it feels: light in the hand, simple to score, and willing to bend into gentle contours without a fight. For landscape builds—mountain faces, layered terrain, quick foundations for buildings—it offers an inviting blank slate that doesn’t demand specialized tools. We also appreciated how easily we could refine edges and carve in basic texture, which speeds up early mockups in the shop. Still, we’re curious about the long-term: how it holds paint, glue, and repeated handling once a scene moves from prototype to display.
