In our shop, cutting boards aren’t just props-they’re work surfaces that take daily hits from knives, moisture, and constant wiping. That’s why we put the John Boos 3 Piece Maintenance Set (Mystery Oil, Board Cream, and applicator) on our test bench to see if it could keep up. The Mystery Oil sinks in fast and feels like a practical first step for thirsty end grain, while the thicker Board Cream adds a noticeable, satin-like finish that seems built for longer protection. We also appreciated the applicator: simple, tidy, and less wasteful than using rags that end up oily and stiff. This kit doesn’t promise miracles, but it aims to make board upkeep routine-and we wanted to see if it actually does.
